Sri Pushpagiri Mahasamsthama Mutt with a long history of more than one thousand years is a multi-dimensional institution of the Veera Shaiva community that has contributed immensely to the cause of societal advancement. The welfare activities of the mutt transcend the sectarian lenities of the Veera Shaiva community and encompass a much wider and larger following of all the sections of Indian society.
The lord Mallikarjuna is the presiding deity of Pushpagiri. The Mallikarjuna temple is 900 years old and id built by queen Shanthaladevi wife of Hoysalas emperor Vishnuvardana, who ruled dhwarasamudra (Halebeedu) kingdom.
Pushpagiri is the seat of Sri Pushpagiri Mahasamsthana headed by his holiness Sri Sri Sri Somashekara Shivacharya maha Swamiji who stays in the mutt at the top of this beautiful hillock. Sri Pushpagiri Mahasmsthana came into existence during the 11th century of the “Hoysala Dynasty”. This religious institution is having disciples throughout the world.
Pushpagiri Maha-Samsthana is one of the religious sites in Karnataka, which attracts lakhs of devotees in belur-Halebidu seragi in Hassan district. Pushpagiri, which has grown amidst the natural beauty that attracts the country and the foreigners, is now rajatgiri.
